THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, May 18, 2010.

June (Halleland) Brekken, 84, of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Story City, passed away peacefully in her home Saturday, May 8, 2010, after a long illness. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery in Randall.

Visitation will be one hour prior the service at the church.

June was born June 28, 1925, in Randall. She was baptized, confirmed, married and will be memorialized at Elim Lutheran Church. She spent much of her life volunteering in various organizations and enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

She will be lovingly remembered by her adoring husband of 65 years, Burdell Brekken; two daughters, Cindy Butterfield, of Glencoe, Ill., and Susan (Tom) Major, of Orono, Minn.; one sister, Ruth Gabrielson, of Story City; two brothers, Herbert (Betty) Halleland, of Blairsburg, and John (Nancy) Halleland, of Randall; one sister-in-law, Thora Kinseth, of Story City; one brother-in-law, Burdette (Barbara) Brekken, of San Marino, Calif.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given in her honor to Hospice and Elim Lutheran Church in Randall.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City is assisting the family with arrangements.
