Georgia Lee Ackerman, 73, of Nevada, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the Story County Medical Center after a battle against liver cancer.
Georgia was born at Cambridge, IA on January 27, 1937 to Charles Laurence and Blanche (Lee) Sweeney. She graduated from Shipley High School in 1955 and attended American Institute of Business.
She married Paul A. Ackerman on January 22, 1957 in Huxley. Following moves to Fort Dodge, Forest City, and Humboldt, they made their home in Nevada. Georgia retired after 28 years as the Nevada Elementary head cook.
She is survived by her husband Paul, daughter Kim Elliott, children Craig and Kelly of Nevada; son Mike and Patsy Ackerman and daughters Collette and Brian Andresen (Lillian and William), Shelby and Dana of Nevada; and daughter Peggy and Scott Hansen, children Britney and Brooke of Griswold, IA. Also surviving are brothers, Larry Sweeney of Pompano Beach, FL; Bob and Pam Sweeney of Altoona, IA; and sister Martha and Chuck Wilson of Nevada, along with several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents.
Georgia was a grandma to many more than just her own-always bringing the team her homemade goodies. She enjoyed her family and their many activities. She had a special place in her heart for gardening, reading, morning coffee, traveling, bowling league, volunteering, and her involvement with the church where she was a long-time member.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 24 with the family present from 5-7:00 pm at the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 25 again at Memorial Lutheran Church with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial will following in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Nevada.
