23 June 1910Attorney Vinje Dies Suddenly
Word Reached Here Sunday That Attorney Vinje, of Nevada had Died Suddenly, While on His Way Home From a Visit to His Farm in Minnesota
People who knew attorney D. J. Vinje, of Nevada, were shocked to hear that he had died suddenly while on his way home from several weeks stay at the home of his son in Minnesota, last Saturday evening just before reaching Nevada. He became unconscious while an hours ride from Nevada and his son John, who accompanied him fanned him and did all that was possible for him, but before they reached Nevada, Mr. Vinje was dead having passed away so quietly that the son did not realized that he was dead until they should take the body from the train. The deceased had been a sufferer from diabetes for several years and last year made a visit to Norway to seek relief, but he continued to gradually fail until the end came.
David Johnson Vinje was born in Voss, BergenStift, Norway, on Feb. 20, 1850 and was just past 60 years of age when called away. He came to this country at the age of eighteen and spent several years teaching and studying, until he settled at Nevada for the practice of law, in 1876. About this time he was married to Miss Helen Husebo of near Le Grand, to which union five children were born and who with their mother mourn the loss of a kind and loving father. They are John Vinje, Helen Vinje, Lulu Kempkes, Bertha Hartman and Arthur Vinje. He also leaves a brother, Judge A. J. Vinje, of Superior, Wis., and a sister, Mrs. A. H. Dahl, of Madison, Wis., besides a stepfather, M. K. Vinje, of Dunbar.
Attorney Vinje was well known to many of our readers as he was one to whom many went for legal advice and counsel and he was always found to be willing and anxious to help as far as he was able. Never was he accused of doing anything but what was honest and fair and for this reason he has numberless friends. The funeral was held Tuesday forenoon and interment took place at the Nevada cemetery.
