A. P. Doolittle Funeral Held

Son of Mrs. Doolittle Dies at Hospital at Clarinda Last Week and Funeral Services are Held at This Place

Alfred Perry Doolittle was born in Crawford County, Ill., on December 22, 1854 and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Doolittle. In 1856 he came with his parents to Story County where they settled on a farm in La Fayette township, where he has since lived with the exception of the past six years when he has been confined in the hospital at Clarinda. Of late he has been rather poorly, but reports were getting so encouraging the last few weeks that hopes were entertained by his aged mother and other relatives that he might come home in the spring, but he was suddenly taken worse and died on Friday, February 4, 1910, being nearly 56 years old.

Besides his aged mother, he leaves four brothers, Frank D., Wm [William] and Ira of Story City; R. D. of Williams; and three sisters, Mrs. T. Carlton, of Rolfe; Mrs. J. P. Brown, of Gilbert; and Miss Emma of this place. There are many other relatives and friends who mourn his death. All his brothers and sisters were present at the funeral.

The remains were brought here Sunday evening and short funeral services were conducted on Tuesday at the Doolittle residence by Rev. G. Smedal, and Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Boyd sang a couple very pretty selections, after which the remains were taken to the Sheffield cemetery where interment took place. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Messrs and Mesdames Harry Dodds, of Gilbert; Frank Cobb, of Boone; Sampson Wier, of Story City; Mrs. E. C. Doolittle and daughter Winnifred of Ames, Mrs. T. E. Carlton, of Rolfe; Mrs. Chase. Greiner, of Williams; R. L., Fred and Guy Doolittle of Williams; Ira Brown, of Gilbert, and possibly others from Gilbert and Story City. The sorrowing ones are extended the sincere sympathy of their numerous friends in the hour of their bereavement.
