Osmund Johnson Laid to Rest in Roland Cemetery Last Friday Afternoon - Church More Than Filled With Friends and Relatives
Osmund Julius Johnson was born in Roland, January 4, 1892 and died at his mother's home January 24, 1910, being 18 years and 20 days old when death suddenly took him away from his friends and nearest ones. He was a son of Mrs. Rebecca Johnson and was a very quiet and highly respected young man. Besides his mother he leaves three brothers, Joseph O. Johnson, who is now in the U. S. navy, Ed E. Johnson, who lives near Mylo, N. D., and Herman, who is staying at home, and three sisters, Mrs. Katie Thompson of near Ihlen, Minn., Miss Sara Johnson, who is teaching near Melbourne, and Nellie, who is staying at home. Besides these he has numerous other relatives and friends to mourn his untimely death. Five years ago he had some kidney trouble, but seemed to have been cured, until last fall when he commenced to fail until the Tuesday before his death, he was forced to stay at home, but did not take to his bed until the following Friday, being in bed only a little more than two days before his death. He never complained and did not seem to think that he needed any physicians help.
The funeral was held from Salem church on Friday afternoon, Rev. J. N. Sandven officiating, after which the remains were interred in the Roland cemetery. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, his former classmates having given a very pretty wreath of cut flowers, while his comrades of the Hawkeye club gave a very beautiful harp of cut flowers. Besides these there were many pretty live and waxed flowers. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Miss Sadie Peterson, of Marshalltown, Mrs. Olaf Olson, of Jewell, Mr. and Mrs. J. Stevenson, of Garden City, Miss Bertha Vallem, of Garden City. The sorrowing mother, brothers, and sisters have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in the hour of their bereavement.
All his brothers and sisters were present at the funeral with the exception of Joseph, who is at present some place in China.
