THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, April 22, 2010.
Mary Alice Lee, 96, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, went into the presence of the Lord Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 26, in the Chapel of the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, with the Rev. Thomas Prochnow officiating. Following the service, a luncheon will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Cornerstone Alliance Church. Graveside services and burial will be in Story Memorial Gardens in Ames following the luncheon.
Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the Chapel of the Eastern Star Masonic Home.
Mary was born June 11, 1913, in Polk County, the daughter of John and Alice (Sanford) Tripp. She attended school at Napier Consolidated School in Napier through the 11th grade and then graduated from Ames High School in 1931. She attended Iowa State College for a short time and then worked for the Ames Telephone Company. On Feb. 27, 1938, she married Millerd Lee in Ames. The couple farmed in the rural Story City area for 11 years and then for 28 years in Boone County in Jackson Township. They grain farmed, raised feeder cattle, pigs, sheep and chickens. They retired in 1977 and moved to town in Boone.
She was a member of the Gilbert Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, and was president of the Martha Circle and General W.M.F. She served as president of the Jackson Township Women’s Farm Bureau and served as Boone County chairperson for two years.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, ceramics, vegetable and flower gardening, and Minnesota fishing trips.
She is survived by two sons, Warren Lee and his wife, Nancy, of Boone, and Eugene Lee and his wife, Birdie, of Colton, S.D.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1992; one son, James Lee and his wife, Donna; one grandson, Jon Millerd Lee; and five brothers, Raymond, Ernest, George, Gerald and Harris Tripp.
