Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Haaland received a message the forepart of the week, conveying the sad news that the latter's brother, Henry Ersland, was dead at Aberdeen, S. D. and that the remains were to be brought to Story City for burial.
Later advices states that Mr. Ersland was on his way to his homestead out in South Dakota with a carload of emigrant goods, and that he in some manner had fallen under the wheels of a moving train last Saturday, the wheels severing both legs.
His wife and daughter were at Slayton, Minn. to remain until he should have got settled in their new home. The news was a sad blow to his family and to his friends.
The remains were brought to Story City where the funeral was held today, Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiating. Quite a few from here attended the funeral, as he was quite well known here, having worked a couple years for O. S. Haaland a few years ago.
The sorrowing ones have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends in the hour of their sudden bereavement.
