Mrs. Helga Swenson, Aged 85, and Mr. John Nelson, Aged 80 Pass Away on Same Morning
John Nelson Sr.
John Nelson Sr. was born in "Varmeland" Sweden, Oct. 16, 1828, and died at the home of his son, Nels Nelson, three miles southeast of Roland. The cause of his death was feebleness on account of his advance age; he being 80 years, one month and 9 days at the time of his death. In 1847 he was married to Carrie Johnson and to this union were born 13 children, five of whom are living viz Nels of near Roland, John of Dixon, Chas. of Dekalb, Peter of Chicago, and Mrs. Frank Rosenquist of Excelsior, Minn. Mr. Nelson with his family came to America in 1865 and located at DeKalb where he worked at the blacksmith's trade. In 1883 he moved with his wife and younger children to Roland, Ia., and resided here for about a year, when he again moved back to DeKalb, Ill. His wife died in 1895; after that he made his home with his son Nels of near Roland. He was a member of the Swedish Lutheran church. Mr. Nelson is survived by 5 children, 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
