Torkel Henryson
Torkel Henryson died at the home of his son, T. T. Henryson, at Story City on Thursday, July 27th. The deceased was born in Norway, March 27, 1822 and at his death had attained the ripe age of 89 years and six months. He taught school in Norway for a few years, after which he married Guro Gronstad, and together they set sail for America, settling in Kendall County, Ill., where they lived for eighteen years, when they moved to Story City, arriving at their destination July 1, 1865. From the first he was a leader in political and social matters in the newly settled country and was one of the first to get a Lutheran congregation organized at that place.
The funeral was held from St. Petri church on Monday, July 31, Rev. Vangsnes preaching the funeral sermon. A large number from here, who had known the deceased from the early days of this section of the county, attended the funeral.
