FORMER RESIDENT DIED

O. O. Helgen, a former resident of Roland, died November 26 at his home at Ruthven. The funeral was held the following Monday.

Mr. Helgen was born at Helg-oen, Fister Sogn, near Stavanger, Norway, on June 22, 1849 and died November 26, 1932, at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 4 days.

He came to the United States in 1871 and came to Roland where he lived for several years. He went to Marshalltown for a short time, returning again to Roland, and in 1888 moved to Ruthven, where he has since resided. He was engaged in the grocery business in Ruthven for a while and then entered the grain business which he conducted for 35 years, retiring from active business life about 12 years ago.

He was married July 7, 1871 to Miss Ingeborg Galta, who survives him. Thirteen children were born of whom seven survive, Henry M. of Emmettsburg, Jonas of Scarsboro, Ill., Dr. George D. of Chicago, Sander of Charles City, Prof. C. B. of Northfield, Minn., Miss Ida Helgen of Mason City, and Mrs. E. A. Peterson of Ruthven. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
