THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, March 16, 2010.

Darlene A. Okland, 73, of Story City, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m.Wednesday, March 17, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City with Pastor Stephen Anenson officiating. Burial will be in Story City Municipal Cemetery. Visitation of family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Darlene A. Okland was born Sept. 2, 1936, in Williams, to Lyle and Sybil I. (Knutson) Davis. She graduated from Story City High School in 1954. Darlene and Merlyn Okland were married Sept. 14, 1957. Dar and Mert established Putco Manufacturing in Story City and were co-owners of that successful business for 22 years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Cyclone Club, Riverbend Golf Course and the Immanuel Lutheran Church Women. She liked all sports, especially bowling and golf. She enjoyed boating, going to the lake and shopping.

She is survived by her husband, Merlyn Okland, of Story City; one daughter, Michelle, and her husband, Tom Randall, of Ames; one son, Jeff Okland, of Dallas; four grandchildren, Tanya, Tera, Jennifer and Jammi; six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Cayman, Nate, Kylee, Hayden and Halston; and one sister, Glenda Knickerbocker, of Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be designated to Israel Family Hospice House or Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City is assisting the family with arrangements.
