O. B. CHRISTIAN DIED AT HOSPITAL

BODY BROUGHT HERE AND FUNERAL HELD IN BERGEN CHURCH

A message was received by relatives here last Wednesday morning stating that O. B. Christian was critically ill at the state hospital at Clarinda and later in the day another message conveyed the news that he had passed away. His brother, John M. Christian, and son Floyd, went to Clarinda and brought the body back to this place for burial.

Mr. Christian had been in failing health for some time and this fall entered the state hospital for treatment.

The funeral was held Saturday at the home and at Bergen church, Rev. M. O. Sumstad officiating. Interment was made in the Roland cemetery. Pall bearers were nephews of the deceased, Henry Erickson, Ray Munson, Earl Ericson, Archie Christian, Marion Christian and Hansel Christian.

Olaf Benjamin Christian was born June 14, 1884, on the Christian homestead south of Roland, and died November 16, 1932 at the age of 48 years, 5 months and 2 days. His parents were Ole and Julia Christian, pioneer residents of the community.

He was married to Miss Bertha Orthun on February 20, 1907. They lived on the Christian farm south of Roland for some time after their marriage and then moved to McCallsburg, where they farmed for a number of years. Two years ago they moved to Ontario and last spring back to Roland.

He is survived by his wife and seven children, Mrs. Charles Johnson, Margaret and Joyce Christian of Des Moines, and Floyd, Robert, Boyd and Wayne at home. A daughter, Dorothy, died at the age of 10 years.

He also leaves six brothers, and three sisters, Cass of Blue Earth, Minn., Henry of Kenyon, Minn., Tom of Painsville, Minn., Albert of Elmore, Minn., Charles of McCallsburg and John of this place, Mrs. E. O. Munson of Story City and Mrs. E. B. Ericson and Mrs. Jane Erickson of this place.

Those from a distance in attendance at the funeral were Mrs. R. E. Johnson and daughter, Miss Janet, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. S. Johnson and daughter Sally Ann, Misses Mildred Larkett and Marjorie Kurtz of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stackhouse of Union, Mrs. Chas. Malliet and daughter Margaret of Zearing, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Twedt and family of Jewell, Ed Twit, Mrs. Arnie Twit, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Berhow of Slater, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Millang and family of Stanhope, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Henderson, Mrs. James Rose, Mrs. Omer Anfinson of Ankeny, Mrs. M. C. Henderson of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Peterson of Frost, Minn., Mrs. Homer Gaard of Garden City, Henry Christian of Kenyon, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Christian and daughter Bertha of Blue Earth, Minn., Albert Christian of Elmore, Minn., and Archie Christian of Garden City.
