Sudden Death

On Friday of last week, a young lady aged about 22, stopping at the residence of Mr. C. P. Robinson since about the first of last September, under the name of Miss Emma Lee, was reported dead. She was taken sick the evening before, became unconscious about seven in the morning, and died about eleven. The suddenness of her death, as she had been considered in perfect health, was a surprise to the whole town and for the time created no little excitement. An inquest was ordered upon the remains, the Coroner's jury being J. D. Ferner, I. A. Ringheim, and J. A. Fitchpatrick. The evidence of Mr. and Mrs. Robinson was that her name was Emma Lee Miller, and that her parents lived in New Hampton; that she caame here from Marshalltown to board, and remain a few months to rest and recruit up. There being no external evidence as to the cause of her death, Drs. Schooler and Scott were called to make a postmortem examination, who found two fatty tumors in the heart of such a character as to produce death, and the jury brought in their verdict accordingly.

The friends were telegraphed immediately upon her death, but as no answer was received, funeral services were held on Sunday and the remains buried. Monday, a telegram from her friends was received, and that evening her brother-in-law arrived, who remained until yesterday afternoon and returned. She left home on account of some family disagreement: was for a time engaged as a dressmaker at Union, Hardin county, went from there to Marshalltown, and from Marshalltown to here.
