The Nevada Representative, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, January 29, 1879.

A Sudden Death

This morning about half past seven o'clock, Mr. W. H. Mead, well known to a large part of Story county, and especially the citizens of Nevada and Ames, in both of which places he has resided, died of heart disease. He awake about six o'clock, feeling apparently as well as he had for several days, was taken with convulsions and in about an hour had breathed his last. As we go to press this forenoon, we have only time to notice briefly that he came to this county from Boston, first located at Ames where he went into partnership with Mr. N. B. Jacobs, under the firm name of Jacobs, Mead & Co. in the purchase and shipment of butter and eggs. A little over a year ago the firm changed their headquarters to this place, taking the spacious basement of the Ringheim block for their business.

A few months ago Mr. Jacobs retired from the firm, and Mr. Mead continued the business in his individual name. During the winter he had been buying and shipping chickens and turkeys in addition to his regular business. He was one of our most active and energetic business men, genial and pleasant always, and apparently always in the most robust health. He had been slightly indisposed for a few days past, but was around upon the street nearly every day, and to all appearances in the most perfect health. He was 25 years of age in December, was married about a year ago, and leaves a young and sorrowing wife who alone is left to mourn his loss.

He was of a highly literary turn of mind, and amid all his business cares, was giving much attention to books. He was heartily interested in all good works, was out to the temperance meeting last evening, and was one of the number who subscribed five dollars in the furtherance of that cause. His loss will be severely felt by our business circle and he will be greatly missed by the entire community.
