THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, February 18, 2010.
Paul M. Gassman, 53, of Marshalltown, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at his residence under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Interment will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown.
Paul was born June 19, 1956, in Rapids City, S.D., the son of Max and Gail (Evans) Gassman. He was raised in the Waterloo area, and graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1974. He earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University. He married Crystal Bartell Aug. 19, 1995, in Marshalltown.
For the past 29 years, he had been employed with Fisher Controls in Marshalltown, most recently serving as the director of customer loyalty. He was a member of Marshalltown Vineyard Church, where he served as an elder. He served on the Marshalltown School Board and was involved with the schools in many capacities over the years. He enjoyed woodworking, spending time with his family, and hosting 10 exchange students over the years.
Paul will be missed by his wife, Crystal; one son, Michael Gassman, of Chicago; two daughters, Katherine and Caroline, both at home; his parents, Max and Gail Gassman, of Ames; and one brother, Phillip W. (Brigitte) Gassman, of Ames.
