Born on March 6th, 1924, in Decatur County, Iowa, he was one of three children born to J. Rolla and Bertha (Hutchins) Beavers. He attended several schools as a young boy as his father was a farmhand for many farmers. The family came to Collins in 1937 when he was in 8th grade. He graduated in the Collins High School’s Class of 1942.
On March 24th, 1944, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Wallace at the Iowa Falls United Methodist Church. They made their home near Rhodes farming and purchased their farm at Collins in December of 1967. The couple made this their home until retiring into Collins in 2001. Still, Reid enjoyed going to the farm everyday to help with chores.
Reid was a member of the Rhodes United Methodist Church and was a born farmer. He treasured the time with his grandchildren- especially camping, his trips to Arizona beginning in 1986 until 2001, gardening, cutting wood, playing pool, cribbage, 500 and shuffleboard and driving the school bus for the Collins Schools.
Left to cherish his memory are Lorraine - his loving wife, work partner and best friend of 65 years, three children: Beverly Mills (John Johnson) of Des Moines, Jim (Alice) Beavers of Collins and Frank (LeAnn) Beavers of Colo; eight grandchildren: Michele Brant, T.R. (Bob) Mills, III, Jeffry Mills, Jodi Girard, Jennifer Gerhart, Michael Beavers, Brett Beavers and Laura Greenwell, 11 great-grandchildren, his brother Rex (Phyllis) Beavers of Collins and sister Ramona Mahoney of Polk City.
In death, Reid has rejoined his parents, son Kenneth who died in 1997 and grandson Chad.
