Charles Barr

Sept. 7, 1909-Feb. 14, 1996

Charles "Charlie" Barr, 86, of Hollywood; Fla., formerly of Ames, died Wednesday at the Pines Memorial Hospital in Pembroke Pines, Fla., of heart failure. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 am. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames with Monsignor James Supple officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Charles "Charlie" Barr was born in Ames, the son of William Thomas and Mattie (Whitford) Barr. He lived most of his life in Ames, moving to Florida 35 years ago. Mr. Barr married Lola Buttry, who preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 1981.

He owned the Ames Reliable Products Co. and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Barr was a member of the Elks Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Ames Golf and Country Club.

Mr. Barr is survived by two sisters, Mildred Gerhrach of Golden Beach, Fla., and Florence Castonguay of Albuquerque, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers; memorial contributions may he made in Mr. Barr's name to the charity of choice.
