THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, January 5, 2010.

Sara Deuel Myers, 59, of Boone, died unexpectedly at her home Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Grace Episcopal Church in Boone, with the Rev. Thomas Gehlsen officiating. Following the service, her body will be cremated.

The casket will be closed. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.

Sara was born Dec. 3, 1950, in Boone, the daughter of Milo and Sara (Kountz) Deuel. She graduated from Boone High School in 1969, and received her nurses training from Des Moines Area Community College. On Nov. 23, 1979, she married Loren Myers in Boone. The couple later divorced.

She was a registered nurse, working earlier at the former Ledges Manor in Boone, Boone County Hospital in Boone, Madrid Home and Mary Greeley Medical Center, and she most recently was a hospice nurse at Israel Family Hospice House. She enjoyed flower gardening, especially wildflowers, watching movies, spending time with her family and friends, and attending grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by two daughters, Rachel McDowell and husband, Chad, of Boone, and Karen Myers, of Bedford, Ky.; stepson, Chris Myers, of Boone; her parents, Milo and Sara Deuel, of Boone; one brother, Bruce Deuel and wife, Cheryl, of Guernsey, Wyo.; two sisters, Susie Juhl and husband, Ed, of Portland, Maine, and Margie Hedren and husband, John, of Deephaven, Minn.; three grandchildren, Jordan, Dylan and Mikayla McDowell; step-grandchild, Jade Myers; and three nephews, Boyd, Ben and Brandon Deuel, of Guernsey, Wyo.

Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
