THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, December 1, 2009.

Kenneth Ostrem, 74, of Zearing, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at his home near Zearing. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at the Nevada Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Colo Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Ken was born Aug. 24, 1935, at Jewell, the son of Nolan and Fern (Stensland) Ostrem. He graduated from McCallsburg High School in 1953. Ken married Gloria Scott April 8, 1956, in McCallsburg. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a member of Nevada Baptist Church. He loved his grandchildren and chocolate.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria, of Zearing; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Rob Shoning, of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Adam Turner and Ashley (Christopher) Arnold; one great-grandchild, Jorden Arnold; his mother, Fern Ostrem, of Ames; and one sister, Jan (Dick) Wright, of Gilbert.

He was preceded in death by his father and one son, Michael Ostrem.

Memorials may be made to Nevada Baptist Church or to Homeward Hospice.

Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
