CHARLES CARROLL, second son of Geo.W. and Edna Risdon Crosley, born March 11th, 1868, died January 8th, 1878 from the effects of Diptheria.

Charlie possessed a highly wrought, nervous temperament, yet having a strong, vigorous physique. While he had a clear, comprehensive and studious mind, he enjoyed and entered into all boyish sports with hearty zest, never willing to take a second place either in school or on the play-ground. His mind was far in advance of his years, his perceptions quick, his memory retentive, yet there was nothing like precocity or conceit. His principles were founded upon a love of right and justice--the standard being placed high. He was a member of the Band of Hope, and he honored the Order, for he was in truth a temperance boy —his hatred of spirituous liquors and tobacco being recited and grounded in his very nature. His manner was modesty and gentleness itself, and his sweet and affectionate disposition won him the favor of every one. There are many households that will miss his bright happy face and merry, ringing laugh; many hearts that mourn his death beside his own home and loved ones, at whose fireside stands the "vacant chair," the broken link in their circle of loved ones. In the public as well as in the Sabbath school, where he was a prompt and constant attendant, no scholar will be missed more than little Charlie by scholars or teacher, who may now feel I that,

"He is not dead, the child of our affection,
But gone unto that school
Where he no longer needs our protection,
And Christ, himself, doth rule."

But particularly will he be missed in that home circle where his presence and cheerful blithesome ways were a perpetual sunshine, and to whom the dreaded messenger came with such suddenness as to overwhelm them in the bitterness of sorrow and grief; but who in their calmer moments, feel

There is no death what seems so is transition;
This life of mortal breath
Is but a suburb of the life elysian'
Whose portal we call death,
