THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, October 9, 2009.

Irene Deloris Eldredge, 80, of Roland, died unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, with her family by her side at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. Interment will be in Roland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, also at Bergen Lutheran Church.

Irene was born Dec. 15 1928, at home in Eagle Grove, to Ernest and Emma Kell. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1946. She was married to Kenneth (Pat) Eldredge for 52 years. To this union were born Douglas, Christie, Debra and Nancy. They moved to Roland in 1956 were she worked for Don Boyd Accounting Services for several years. She later worked for Dr. Readhead Dentistry in Ames until she retired.

She enjoyed playing card games, and she loved to play Yahtzee. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and tatting. Family, friends, music and travel were great passions for her. She was known for her love of pansies and cardinals. She was a longtime active member of Bergen Lutheran Church and the Red Hat Club.

She is survived by her sister, Marge Tysdal, of Berthed, Colo.; her loving family, Christie Molde and her husband, Roger, of Hartland, Wis., Debra Nordaas and her husband, Arlyn, of Granger, and Nancy Spoden and her husband, Ron, of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; four grandchildren; and her beloved cat, Cammie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pat; and one son, Douglas Eldredge.

Memorial suggestions include Bergen Lutheran Church and Roland Library.

Soderstrum Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
