THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, September 23, 2009.
Betty Marshall, 91, of Ames, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, with Chaplain Sandy Anenson officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of the service.
Betty was born Nov. 11, 1917, in Norfolk, Neb., to N. F. and Hazel Pfunder. She graduated from Ames High School in 1935. Betty married Harold Marshall June 16, 1936. They celebrated 72 years of marriage before Harold passed away in June 2008.
Betty was a longtime employee of Bobby Rogers’ Clothing Store in downtown Ames, serving both as manager and buyer for the store. She was a dedicated member of Soroptomist International of Ames, loved to golf with her husband and was a loyal friend to everyone she met.
Betty is survived by grandsons, Jason (Jill) Marshall, of Apopka, Fla., and Kim (Rachael) Marshall, of Des Moines; great-granddaughter, Ella Eve Marshall, of Des Moines; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Marshall, of Ames; sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Duane) Klute, of Ames, and Adrin Marshall, of Boone; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Harold F. “Chip” Marshall; and her brothers, Robert and Bern Pfunder.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
