Selmer (Sam) Erickson, 82, of McCallsburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009. Services are pending with Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing.

Selmer “Sam” Erickson, 82, went home to meet his Lord Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, inAmes. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Stavanger Free Lutheran Church in Garden City. His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Stavanger Free Lutheran Church in Garden City, with burial at Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg.
Selmer was born Aug. 25, 1927, in McCallsburg, the son of Corneil and Amanda Erickson. He was a lifelong farmer and resident of McCallsburg, and graduated from McCallsburg High School in 1946. He retired in 1990.
Selmer and Darlene (Klonglan), his bride of 59 years, were married May 26, 1950, at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. They have four children, Tim, Sherry, Connie and Tammy. Selmer was a devout Christian who loved his Lord and Savior and especially his beloved wife, children and grandchildren.
Selmer was a member of Stavanger Free Lutheran Church in Garden City, and was Scripture Secretary of the Story County Gideons. He was also president of the Central Iowa Chapter of Good News for Israel.
Survivors are his wife, Darlene, of McCallsburg; one son, Tim (Pat) Erickson, of McCallsburg; three daughters, Sherry (Howard) Patterson, of Ames, Connie Ellingson, of Ames, and Tammy (Don) Williams, of Ames; along with 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters, Mae Lovig, of Story City, Hildred Osvog, of Story City, Marie Williams, of Iowa Falls, and Gerine Corbin, of Ames, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Daniel Sam, in April 1953; one brother, Marvin Erickson; and three sisters, Evelyn Hill, Alta Lunning and Corine Moore.
Memorials may be directed to the family and/or the Gideons.
Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
