THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, September 2, 2009.

James Richard Morgan, 93, of Roland, died Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 25 at 1:30 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland with burial following at the Roland Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, August 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City.

James Richard "Dick" Morgan was born August 6, 1916 to Boyd and Eva (Shelton) Morgan in Allerton, Iowa. Dick graduated Allerton High School in 1934 and was a gifted basketball and baseball player. Dick and Violette O. Jacobson were married Dec. 8, 1940. She died May 25, 2005. Dick served in the United States Army during WWII. He was an accountant and worked as an apartment manager at Ingersoll Towers in Des Moines, the Roland Coop, and Ames InCross. Dick was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Roland and the Roland American Legion. Family was very important to him and he enjoyed watching them playing all the different sports. Dick was an avid Cubs fan.

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Miller of North Miami Beach, Florida, and Charlene and her husband Bud Matheny of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; his brother Robert Morgan of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Violette; his brother Lewis Morgan; two sisters, Marcia and Mildred; his son Wayne Morgan; and his grandson Nicholas Morgan.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Roland was entrusted by the family with the arrange ments.
