Jennifer was born Oct. 6, 1977. She graduated from Barrington, Ill., High School in 1996 and the University of Iowa in 2000, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She then attended and graduated from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2003. From there, she was sworn in as an assistant state’s attorney for Cook County, Ill. Her passion for the law and the ability to use it to bring justice for all was ever present in her.

She also is survived by her sister, Amy Steensland, of Council Bluffs; brothers, John and James Monek, of Barrington, Ill., as well as her nephews, Tristan and Tyler Steensland. Her surviving grandparents are Jeanette Burch, of Harlingen, Texas, and formerly of Fort Dodge, Avis Steensland, of Huxley, and Gerrit and Florence Vander Meiden, of Pella. She leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.

She had a very strong faith which she demonstrated in every aspect of her life. Her center of focus was her family. Her nephews were the love of her life, spending countless, joyous hours with them. She cherished the role of “Aunt Jenny” and fulfilled her role to where Tristan and Tyler will always love, cherish and honor her.

She also enjoyed golf and travel. She will be remembered as a determined person who didn’t just set goals, but went about the hard work of achieving them. She enforced the law strictly, but with compassion and understanding. She had every gift in life except length of life. Sher gave the world 31 years of a positive and giving spirit, leaving behind an inspirational legacy.
