Mrs. Nina Pearl Jones, daughter of C.R. and M.E. Evans was born in Marshall county, Iowa, June 29, 1880. She was married to Eddie Jones June 1, 1899 and departed this life Dec. 27, 1902, aged 22 years 5 months, 27 days. She leaves a husband; two little sons, Clarence Evert, aged 2 years and 9 months, Chas. Cecil, only ten days old; a father, mother, two sisters and six brothers to mourn her departure.
She was [dedicated?] to the Lord in the winter of 1894, in a series of meetings held at Willow Creek by Father Statton, and later, in the spring, she joined the Wesleyan Methodist Church at Bethel, near Baxter, of which church she was loyal and true to its principles and doctrine. She was a true companion and mother and was loved by all who knew her.
Eddie and Nina Jones moved to Collins in May 1901, where they resided till the Lord called her to the home above.
The funeral took place at Willow Creek church Sunday afternoon. The church was filled with friends and relatives of the departed. The pall bearers were Walter Finnie, Rutherford Bryant, Chas. Angelo, Roy Cooper, Roy Felshaw and Milford Patterson. The floral tributes were very beautiful. The church alter was draped with crepe. The service was conducted by Rev. B.F. Logsdon of the Bethel Wesleyan Methodist church, assisted by Rev. Burton of the U.B. church, Willow Creek. The text was 1st Thess. 4 chap., last verse, "Therefore comfort ye with these words."
The choir rendered splendid service and their singing and the preacher's words deeply touched the hearts of the audience.
The interment was at the Day Cemetery, where all that was mortal of the loved one was tenderly laid to rest.
Nina was a sweet spirited girl, always loved by those who knew her in the relationships of life. She was always ready to lend a helping hand when a chance offered. Her presence will be much missed, but not forgotten.
The above obituary, written by a bereaved one, tells the simple story of a beautiful life, now quenched on earth, Mrs. Jones, as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend and neighbor was ever kind and faithful. Her life was passed in happiness to herself and she made others happy. The editor of this paper recalls that for some time, about six years ago, she was the Clipper correspondent for her neighborhood. The items disclosed to us that she enjoyed the beauties of her rural surroundings, the simple charms of nature, as well as the neighbors and friends of whom she wrote a pleasant paragraph. To enjoy those simple yet eloquent beauties in nature and in the friends and neighbors around us is to enjoy life most thoroughly. Such an one could not help being kind and faithful to those within her sphere of animation. Our sincerest sympathies are given to the deeply bereaved.
NOTE: Mrs. Jones was re-interred at Collins Township Evergreen Cemetery August 31, 1962. She lies beside her husband Eli Edward Jones - Sexton Evergreen Cemetery]
