THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, June 24, 2009.

George Irving Larson, 87, of Nevada and formerly of rural Garden City, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 26, at Zion Lutheran Church, 13171 330th St., in Radcliffe, with Pastor DeWayne Teig officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 25, with the family present from 4 to 7 p.m., at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada.

George was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Hardin County, to Isaac and Anna (Berven) Larson. He was a 1939 graduate of Radcliffe High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Jan. 31, 1949, he married Doris Asher at the Little Brown Church. He spent his entire working career farming in Hardin and Story counties. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Roland American Legion Post 307. George enjoyed playing ping pong, ballroom dancing, playing cards and cribbage, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Larson, of Nevada; two daughters, Nancy (Mike) Waters, of Ames, and Peggy (Brian) Carr, of Nevada; three grandchildren, Chad (Amy) Settle, Jarrod (April) Gray, and Jamison Carr; one step-granddaughter, Lisa Latham; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and David Larson; and two sisters, Marguerite and Enger in infancy.

A memorial fund has been established in George’s name for the Zion Lutheran Church.
