Aleda “Lee” Ruth Thorsheim, 89, died Monday, June 22, 2009, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be in Story City Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 25, at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City.
Aleda Ruth Thorsheim was born Sept. 28, 1919, in Thor, to Lars and Alice (Hovick) Johnson. After graduating high school in Thor, she worked for the U.S. Treasury in Chicago and for Gates Department Store in Fort Dodge. She met Elmer “Bud” Thorsheim in the bakery in Radcliffe. A courtship ensued, which led to their marriage May 30, 1944, in Biloxi, Miss. They moved to Story City in 1979. She was an active member of St. Petri Lutheran Church and enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy Thorsheim and her husband, Al Blankschien, of Milwaukee, Wis., Mary and her husband, Steve, Hanson, of Roland, and Bonnie and her husband, Michael, Phillips, of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud on Sept. 19, 2005; infant daughter, Patricia; and six brothers and sisters, Elsie Colby, Henry Johnson, Florence Colby, Oscar Johnson, Bessie Saxeide and Lester Johnson.
Memorials will be designated at a later date by the family.
