Ruth Eileen Day, 90 of rural Nevada died on Tuesday, June 9 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 15, at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Nevada.
Ruth was born on December 27, 1918 at home in rural Colo, Iowa to Raymond O. and Blanche Mary (Sarsfield) Boyd. She graduated with honors from Maxwell High School in 1936. Following graduation, Ruth worked for the local telephone company in Nevada. On February 19, 1939, she married Raymond James Day at the Methodist Church in Nevada. Ruth was a homemaker, part time cook at Story County Hospital for 18 years and a caregiver for several people in Nevada. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society, First United Methodist Church and also served as Secretary for the Bithiah Circle. Ruth enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher and mentor for the confirmation class. Ruth also enjoyed making quilts for missionary work with the Shipley group, traveling, playing cards and dominos, and being with family and friends.
Ruth is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and John Peters of Lewis Iowa and Iowa City, IA; 2 sons, Dr. David Day of Kauai, Hawaii and Ronald Day of Nevada; 2 grandchildren, Sabina Peters of Iowa City and Ryan Day of Santa Rosa, CA; sister, Doris Henryson of Palm Desert, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond Day on August 7, 1993, and a sister, D. Jean Henderson on January 14, 2001.
