THE TRI-COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, June 4, 2009.

Melba Evelyn Hill, 84, of Huxley, died May 30, 2009 at the Madrid Home. Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 2 at Soderstrum Riis Funeral Home. Services were held Wednesday, June 3, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church, Huxley.

Melba was born March 27, 1925 in Vinton, IA to Roy and Mary (Morris) Ashbaugh. She was baptized in Redfield, IA and confirmed at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church where she is still a member. Melba was a 1942 graduate of Huxley High School. She married Robert Hill, Sept. 30, 1942 in Huxley. She worked at Bourne's as an electrical assembler for 18 years retiring in 1984. She was also a cook in the Kelley and Ballard schools. Melba was an avid collector and enjoyed reading, playing cards, and watching sports on TV. She loved her pets.

Melba is survived by three children, her sons, Robert Hill, Jr. and his wife Carol, of Huxley and Dale Hill and his wife Beth of Loveland, CO; her daughter, Joyce Sevenbergen and her husband, Bob of Ames; sister, Marilyn Edwards and her husband, Jack of Clarion; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hill, Sr. in 1998.

Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
