Virginia A. (Highley) Thompson, 93, formerly of Slater, died Wednesday, May 27 at Story Medical Center Long Term Care in Nevada. Services were held Tuesday, June 2 at the Cambridge United Methodist Church with burial in the Cambridge Cemetery.

Virginia Thompson was born July 27, 1915 in Iowa Falls, Iowa to Ira and Anna (Whitesell) Highley. On April 16, 1932 she married Marion J. Thompson. They were married 58 years until his death on August 10, 1990. She was a homemaker all her life, dedicating herself to her family. She was an excellent cook, known for her delicious apple and cherry pies. She enjoyed Friday night game night, popping popcorn for everyone, and playing Scrabble. For her kids, young and old, she baked her famous sugar cookies.

She is survived by six daughters, Elaine Helgeland (Gilbert) of Ocala, FL, Janet Thorson (Roger) of Cambridge, Carole Hunt (Terry) of Nevada, Donna Cook (Duane) of Cambridge, Sandra Clatt (Larry) of Colo, Cathy Fjelland (Bill) of Ames and daughter-in-law, Deb Thompson of Huxley; one sister, Anabel Ostheimer of Iowa Falls; one brother, Franklin Highley (Betty) of Iowa Falls; 25 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her greatly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her son, Myron Thompson, one granddaughter, Cindy Cook, and her sister, Dorothy Bump.
