JOSEPH 'JOE' SIDNEY SMITH
Joseph "Joe" Sidney Smith, 82 of Nevada, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 1984 at Story County Hospital in Nevada.
Joseph Smith was born on March 4, 1902 in Boone, Ia. to Ike and Lucinda Smith. He was educated in the rural schools near Boone. On April 24, 1929, he was married to Sarah See in Nevada, Ia. He farmed and worked for several farmers in Story County as a farm hand. He worked for 17 years at the Nevada Poultry and three years at Union Story Bank. For the past 37 years the couple has lived in Nevada. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nevada.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah; three sons, Earl of Chapin, Ia., Donald K. of Nevada and Dennis who is in the U. S. Army in New Boston, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Ed (Josephine) Mann of Mira Lema, Ca.; five step-sisters, Pearl Spencer, Rosella Harrison, Esther Mahoney, Leona Scherer and Irene Baack; 36 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by three brothers Clarence, Seith and Alvia Smith and one sister Della Mae.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, Sept. 25, 1984 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Nevada. Rev. Ernest Larson will officiate the service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Nevada.
Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
