Marlene Mae Smith Sept. 6, 1933 - Jan. 8, 1999

Marlene Mae Smith, 65, of Iowa Falls and formerly of Nevada, died of cancer Friday at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada, with the Rev. John Herzog officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in rural Nevada.

Marlene Mae Smith was born in Independence, the daughter of Ewen L. and Matilda P. (Millier) Miller. She graduated from St. Mary's Nursing School in Rochester, Minn. On May 25, 1954, she married Harold Smith in Independence. She had lived in Iowa Falls for the past 2 1/2 years after moving from Nevada. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Patrick's Church in Nevada. Her interests were the piano and her family.

Survivors include four sons, Timothy Smith of Iowa Falls, Gary Smith of Ames, James Smith of Ankeny and Patrick Smith of Pueblo, Colo.; four daughters, Margaret Hendrichs of Overland Park, Kan., Mary Anderson of Minneapolis, Minn., Colleen Smith of Ames, and Kathy Smith of Eldora; 11 grandchildren; and one brother, Rex Miller of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Visitation with the family present is from 5 to 8 tonight, with a vigil service at 7, at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established.
