Elizabeth "Betty" Petersen Aug. 29. 1920 - Oct. 7, 2001
Elzabeth "Betty" Petersen, 81, of rural Gilbert, died Sunday at her home of renal failure. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gilbert Lutheran Church in Gilbert with the Rev. Thomas Prochnow officiating. Burial will be in South St. Petri Cemetery in rural Gilbert.
Elizabeth "Betty" Peterson was born Aug. 29, 1920, in Ames, the daughter of Ernest and Arthena Carter and Ruth (Hines) and Harold Lee. She graduated from Ames High School. She married Irving "Sonny" Petersen April 21, 1941, in Trenton, Mo. She was a homemaker. She had lived in Ames, Gilbert and Nevada. She was a member of Gilbert Lutheran Church, Neighborhood Prayer Group and Milford Social Hour.
She is survived by her husband; five daughters, Connie Safly of Gilbert, Karen Willson of Gilbert, Vicki Alberts of Omaha, Neb., Cindy Olinger of Ames and Kim Reilly of Gilbert; her stepmother, Arthena Moore of Paradise, Cali.; two sisters, Helen Clark of Aurora, Colo., and Joyce Cooper of Westminster, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Gilbert Lutheran Church. Memorials can be made to Gilbert Lutheran Church or Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation for Homeward Hospice.
Adams Funeral Home in Ames is in charge of arrangements.
