Gene Bowers, Nevada, died of gunshot

Gene Bowers, 55, of Nevada, died Friday morning of self-inflicted gunshot wounds, according to John Stark, Story County sheriff.

His wife found him critically injured when she returned from work about 8:05 a.m. Friday. He was taken by ambulance to Story County Hospital where he died at 8:26 a.m.

Bowers had been an employee of Montgomery Wards in Ames for 21 years. He was born May 23, 1915 in California. He is survived by his wife and two children, Linda, a sophomore at Nevada High School, and Mark, a sophomore at Iowa State University.

Funeral services for Mr. Bowers will by Monday at 2 p.m. from the Memorial Lutheran Church with the Rev. Harry Myklebust officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Nevada. Ryan Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
