THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, May 12, 2009.

Wesley John “Bud” Todd, 85, passed from this life Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames of complications from Alzheimer’s and diabetes. In agreement with Bud’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.

A memorial service celebrating Bud’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Garden Prairie United Church of Christ, in rural Madrid, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service. Committal services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone. Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid is in charge of arrangements.

Bud was born Sept. 1, 1923, in Boone, to John Henry and Inza Loretta (Collins) Todd. He was a 1943 graduate of Boone High School and attended Purdue University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific area on the USS Coney. After his honorable discharge from the service, he married Mary Maxine Benson April 6, 1946, in Boone. Their marriage was blessed with three sons, Steven, Jeffrey and Thomas. Bud and Mary Maxine moved to the Madrid area in 1949, where he had farmed for many years.

He was a member of Garden Prairie United Church of Christ, a 50-year member of the Masonic Star Lodge 115 in Madrid and a 50-year member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Altoona. He also was a member of the American Legion in Boone and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Mary Maxine Todd, of Madrid; children, Steven B. (Margaret) Todd, of Ames, Jeffrey J. (Teresa) Todd, of Madrid, and Thomas W. (Lori) Todd, of Breckenridge, Colo.; one sister, Janet E. (Alan) Kingsley, of Denton, Texas; six grandchildren, Adam W. (Janna) Todd, of Baxter, Alan Todd, of Ames, Cynthia A. Todd and Michelle M. (Steve) Allen, both of Des Moines, and Nathan T. Todd and Tricia N. Todd, both of Madrid; and two great-grandchildren, Kelton and Clara.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Norma J. (Hopkinson) Elsworth; and one daughter-in-law, Rae Jean Todd.

Memorials may be made to either Garden Prairie United Church of Christ or Hospice of Central Iowa.
