Ona E. Nelson March 1, 1914 to March 13, 1999
Ona E. Nelson , 85, of Fremont, Neb., and formerly of Nevada, died from complications of Parkinson's Disease on Saturday, March 13 in Fremont, Neb., at the Merrick Manor.
She was born March 1, 1914, in Earlham to Fred and Bertha Imboden. She married Warren Nelson on June 1, 1938, at her parents' home in Winterset. She attended schools near Earlham and received a two-year primary teaching certificate from Iowa Normal School in Cedar Falls.
She helped her husband on their farm; and after her husband's death on Sept. 3, 1969, she moved to Nevada in 1971 and worked as a Homemaker Health Aide. She was a member of the Nevada United Methodist Church. Due to Parkinson's Disease, she moved into Rolling Green Village in Nevada in 1995 and then transferred to Merrick Manor in Fremont, Neb., to be near her oldest daughter. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, baking, gardening and canning.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Key Allen of Fort Calhoun, Neb., Sharon Ann Bown of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Sue Ellen Nelson of New York City; four grandsons; three great-grandchildren and one brother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two great-grandchildren, one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 17, at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada with the Rev. Steve Williams officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Association.
