Irene Johnson, 94, of Story City died Dec. 26, 2008 at Abbington on Grand in Ames. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial followed in the Story City Cemetery. Visitation was held prior to the service.

Irene was born June 28, 1914 in Boone County to Joseph and Lilly (Toepfer) Wheeler. She was a lifetime resident of the Story City area and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She had worked at Ames Laundry and Story City Cleaners. She enjoyed doing yard-work.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Don) Johnson of Ames; a son, LeRoy Johnson of Story City; a grandson, Terry Sorenson (Cindy); two great-grandchildren, Jason Sorenson and Angie Amundson; two great-great-grandchildren, Makayla and Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Kathy Saldana and two sisters, Leora Thorson and Geneva Satre.

Soderstrum Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
