Don Charles Arnold, 76, of McCallsburg, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at his home. Services are pending at Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing.

Don C. Arnold, 76, of McCallsburg, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. Interment will be in Colo Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg.
Don C. Arnold was born Dec. 9, 1932, on his grandfather’s farm just outside of McCallsburg, to Cleo F. and Junis L. (Christian) Arnold. He attended school in McCallsburg until the ninth grade, and then went to work for his father. He worked for his dad as a teenager, later doing farm and factory work. He served in the U.S. Navy from February 1952 to January 1956, aboard the USS Ozbourn, which took him to Japan and Okinawa, two of his favorite stops.
He married Betty Mae Settle Feb. 25, 1953, in Boone.
He started working for the McCallsburg Coop in 1958. He retired in 1992 after 34 years.
He loved working in his yard, mowing and keeping things looking nice. He also loved to go to the casino for his outings. He enjoyed visiting his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by one son, Randy W. (Terri) Arnold, of Story City; one daughter, Robin A. (Bob) Thomas, of McCallsburg; grandchildren, Nikki (Chad) Crabtree, Shanna (Ed) Blankenship, Julie (Mike) Olson, Rick (Melinda) Arnold, Misty (Brandon) Bickelhaupt, Trinity (Melissa) Arnold, Tracy Lang, Robert (Jennifer) Thomas Jr., Dustin Arnold, Casie Arnold and Natasha Arnold; and 22 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two sisters, Connie Hardin, of Ames, and Ruberta Hughes, of Loveland, Ohio; and one brother, Lamonte Arnold, of Zearing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leo; an infant sister; his wife, Betty in 2000; and one son, Ronald in 1998.
Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing is in charge of arrangements.
