THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, March 29, 2009.

Gary W. DeMoss, 63, of Des Moines, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Story Memorial Gardens.

Gary DeMoss was born Nov. 3, 1945, in Ames to Roy R. and Evelyn A. (Mesenbrink) DeMoss Sr. He resided in Ames until 1971. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971, and served as a combat medic in Vietnam. He lived in Minneapolis from 1971 to 1973 and was a manager for a Tandy Leather Co. store in St. Paul. In 1978, he went to work for Iowa Power, now known as Mid American Energy, as a meter reader for eight years, and a meter utility person for the remainder of his career.

He is survived by one brother, Roy (JoAnn) DeMoss and one sister, Karen (Steve) Epstein, all of Ames; one daughter, Michelle DeMoss and two grandchildren, Seneca and Elijah DeMoss, all of Morgantown, W.V.; one brother-in-law, Larry Beach, of Ames; the love of his life, Ruth Gerk, of Des Moines; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Lynn Beach.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.
