THE NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, March 26, 2009.

NEVADA - Marion E. Smith, 84, of Nevada, died Friday, March 20, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Marion was born August 29, 1924 at Collins, Iowa, the son of Orrin and Sarah (Gilley) Smith. He graduated from Collins High School in 1942. Marion served in the Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Dawson on January 30, 1954 at the EUB parsonage in Zearing. Marion had worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation as a draftsman and Soil Design Engineer, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the First United Methodist of Nevada, and the American Legion, William F. Ball Post #48. Marion loved his family and granddaughters. He enjoyed fishing, feeding the squirrels and working with numbers.

Marion is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Nevada; a daughter: Terry Seibert of Story City; two granddaughters: Shannon and Kristie; and two sisters: Gertrude Hunt of Nevada, and Gloria Carpenter of Nevada.

Marion was preceded in death by his parent; seven brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. Interment was in the Colo Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association and to the First United Methodist Church in Nevada.

The Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
