Woody Lee Reed, formerly of Twin Falls, Idaho and Nevada, Iowa passed away Monday March 2, 2009 at his home in Glendale, Arizona.
He was born October 22, 1918 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Ethel and Duffy Reed. He was raised in Twin Falls, attended Twin Falls schools and graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1936. He attended the University of Idaho and graduated with a Batchelor of Science in Business Administration in 1940. He was a member of the Beta Theta Phi Fraternity. Woody married his childhood sweetheart, Frances Wilson, on July 9, 1941. During WWII he served in the infantry of the United States Army and as a navigator in the United States Air Corp. In the Air Corp he was assigned to the Fourth Ferry command and attained the rank of Second Lieutenant while serving in the European theater.
After the war, Woody worked as Office Manager at the Twin Falls Flour Mill and as an executive in the Duffy Reed Construction Co. Woody worked with his Dad and his brother Duffy in major construction projects all over the West and most of Idaho building railroads, airports, reclamation projects and highways. After the death of his father and brother, he closed the business in 1965. In 1966 he purchased the Williams Case Farm Equipment Co. which became Reed Tractor. He retired in 1981. Woody and Fran spent many enjoyable winters in Arizona. Fran passed away in 1990. In 1993 Woody married Irma Riordan Cahill from Iowa. Their friendship began in Arizona. They resided in Iowa in the summer and Arizona in the winter. They enjoyed outings with friends, playing cards, family, and traveling.
Woody was preceded in death by his wife Frances Reed, his parents Duffy and Ethel Reed, brother Duffy Reed, sister Vivian Stein, granddaughter Kimberly Chase Heffner.
Surviving are his wife Irma Reed of Nevada, Iowa; daughters Marilyn Reed Chase of Boise, Idaho, Barbara Reed (Jim) Thiel of Nampa, Idaho; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by Irma's family, Joe & Margie Cahill, Tom & Kay Cahill and MaryAnn & Bruce Schwering, all of Nevada, Iowa. Inurnment services were held on Saturday March 21, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls, Idaho. Arrangements were under the direction of White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park."
