ATTORNEY FOR HIGHWAY BODY DIES OF FALL

Is Injured Trying To Halt Careless Driver

D. M. Tripp, 55, of Newton, attorney for tbe Iowa Highway commission since he was appointed Feb. 15, died at 5 a. m. Friday at a Ft. Dodge hospital from injuries sustained Thursday afternoon when he attempted to arrest a man for careless driving on highway 20 between Ft Dodge and Webster City.

Since being named as attorney for the commission, Tripp had been living at the Sheldon-Munn hotel here.

Tripp was riding with H. O. Hickok of Ames, right-of-way engineer for the commission, when they noticed that the car ahead of them was weaving from shoulder to shoulder of the highway. After chasing the car for two miles they managed to cause it to stop on the highway near Duncombe.

On Running Board

Standing on the running board of Hickok's car, Tripp jumped off before the car had come to a complete stop. He was thrown to the pavement, falling on his head and fracturinghis skull. He was rushed to a Ft. Dodge hospital, where he died about 12 hours later.

An investigation was planned Friday at Fort Dodge and Ben Thatcher of Des Moines, driver of
the car which Tripp and Hickok had sought to stop, was feeing held for questioning.

Former Senator

Pervious to his appointment as attorney for the commission, Tripp had served as Iowa senator from Jasper county.

Funeral arrangements were being made Friday at Newton, with the tentative date set for 2 p. m. Sunday. A number of Iowa Highway commission employes here will attend the services.

Tripp is survived by his wife and one child, D. Myron Tripp jr., and several brothers and sisters.
