THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, February 11, 2009.
Thelma Auxier Vaughn, 87, of Boone and Evangelical Free Church Home, passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Boone County Hospital in Boone. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone, with the Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, east of Luther.
Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday at Schroeder Memorial Chapel.
Thelma was born April 30, 1921, in rural Wayne County near Bentonville, the daughter of Guy and Mabel (Helt) Auxier. She attended Allerton High School and graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1941. On Sept. 28, 1946, she married Marvin Vaughn in Humeston. The couple lived in Wayne County until 1948, Des Moines until 1952, and rural Ames until 1980 when the couple retired to Boone. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Harkens Hospital in Osceola and the former Ledges Manor in Boone. She then did assembly work at Bourne’s in Ames. She retired in 1983. She was a member of Napier United Methodist Church before transferring to First United Methodist Church in Boone in 1981. In earlier years, she was very active with Sunday school, Bible school, and other children’s activities of her church. She enjoyed quilting, needlework, and flower and vegetable gardening.
She is survived by one son, Stanley and wife, Pam, of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Norine Vaughn, of Boone; one grandson, Tim and Denai Vaughn, of Dallas; great-granddaughters, Cassie Faucher, of Houston, and Victoria Vaughn, of Dallas; one sister, Wilma McCullough, of Des Moines; one brother-in-law, Carroll and Arlene Vaughn, of Kellogg; three sisters-in-law, Wilma Auxier, of Chariton, Virginia Auxier, of Humeston, and Shirley Frandson, of Story City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one granddaughter, Suni Jean Vaughn Stolp; infant brother, Raymond; two brothers, Maurice and Leslie Auxier; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Max and Lorene Vaughn, Dick and Marilyn Moore, Dick Frandson, and Bill McCullough.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
