Merlin M. Roorda, 94, died January 29, 2009, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada, Iowa. Mr. Roorda has been cremated and graveside services will be at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

He was born at Harvey, Iowa on July 13, 1914, the son of Albert L. and Pearl (Mitchell) Roorda. He married Josephine Van Der Peut on October 30, 1038. She preceded him in death on January 1, 2003. Merlin farmed all his life near Bussey, Iowa.

He is survived by two daughters: Jeanne Van Houweling of Des Moines, Iowa; Janice (Gary) Carr of Three Rivers, Michigan; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; one sister: Alberta McGee of Deming, New Mexico.

Preceding him in death were his parents and wife.
