THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, January 23, 2009.
Mary Louise Hamil, 87, of Ames and formerly of Boone, passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at Walter-Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth and Story streets in Boone. Burial will be in Boone Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 25, at Walter-Schroeder Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 8 a.m. to the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.

Mary Louise Hamil, 87, of Ames, and formerly of Boone, passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at the First Baptist Church, 612 Eighth St., in Boone, with Rev. Daniel Flemming officiating. Burial will be in the Boone Memorial Gardens in Boone.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 25, at the Walter-Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth and Story Streets in Boone. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to the service time Monday at the church.
Mary was born June 23, 1921, in Portsmouth, the daughter of John Leo and Bernice Marie (Phillipy) Frederick. She graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Boone.
On Aug. 11, 1941, she married William J. Hamil in Unionville, Mo. She was a homemaker and also worked at the Ledges Manor in Boone as a cook for around 10 years. She lived most all her life in Boone.
She was a member of the Nazarene Church of Boone. She played the piano for church services and served as Sunday school treasurer. She was also active in other duties in her church. She was a member of the VFW of Boone. Mary enjoyed raising her garden and strawberry patch, and canning the vegetables she raised. She also enjoyed camping and fishing. Mary sang and played the harmonica, which she enjoyed.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Dennis) Toft, of Ames; her sons, Jerry (Sue) Hamil, of Margaretville, N.Y., Jim (Ginger) Hamil, of Cambridge, and Thomas (Francine) Hamil, of Boone; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her brother, James Frederick, of Boone; and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Karen; her six brothers, Gene, Don, Jack, Bob, Nick and Barney; and her sister, Ruth.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
Walter-Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth and Story Streets in Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
