THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, January 20, 2009.
Mike Abbe, 61, of Des Moines, lost his fight with cancer and went to his heavenly home Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, surrounded by his loving family. As per his wishes, Mike’s body has been cremated and a memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines.
A memorial gathering with the family present will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Westover Funeral Home.
Mike was born June 5, 1947, in Waterloo, the son of Virgil and Verona (Nelson) Abbe, where he grew up in the restaurant business. He lived most of his life in Iowa. He loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed his dogs, hunting and fishing. He was a dedicated and loyal member of Elks Lodge 2752 where he held several offices. He was also a district deputy with the Elks.
He is survived by his wife, Toni; children, Scot Abbe, of Des Moines, Susan Abbe and Stephen (Deborah) Abbe, of Orlando, Fla., and April (Mark) Heintz, of Nevada; grandchildren, Celeste Lapen, Jessie and Jaeden Heintz, and Austin Abbe; great-grandchild, Jordan Lapen; and his granddogs, Martini and Buddy Abbe.
