ARLENE LUCILLE MCHOSE

Nevada

Arlene Lucille McHose passed away peacefully on the evening of January 9, in the presence of family to leave this life and be with her Lord to start a new life beyond.

Born April 20, 1926, in Ogden, IA, to Robert and Teresa (Burgett) Gilliland, she spent her early years growing up on their Boone county farm until the family later moved to Des Moines. She graduated from East High School in 1944, and was later employed by Taylor's Clothiers in downtown Des Moines. She met the man she would spend the next 62 years with on a girls’ night out, and was soon married to Donald W. McHose on July 8, 1947. They settled in Nevada where they raised their three children, Mark, Alan, and Ron.

Arlene was very active in golf, bridge club, dance club, and teaching Sunday school for over 20 years, while doing all the other things that great mothers do. In her later years, she enjoyed art projects, her flower gardens, playing with grandchildren and attending their activities, and traveling with Don. She was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, PEO, Questers, and served as a host and guide at the Governor's Terrace Hill Mansion in Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Byron; and her sister, Vera. She is survived by her husband, Don; whose steadfast devotion to Arlene in these last several years of declining health, has been inspiring to us all. Also, her three sons, including six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and her brother Larry, of Sarasota, FL. Arlene will be missed for her wonderful sense of humor, compassion, and love that she so faithfully gave us all. These last years had been very difficult for her and we rejoice as she embarks on her new life adventure in Heaven.

Services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Central Presbyterian Church, Nevada, IA.

Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services has been entrusted with Arlene and her family.
