Howard Foss McCauley, 90, of Cambridge, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Burial will be in Loring Cemetery near Maxwell.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.

Howard was born June 23, 1918, near Cambridge, the son of Andrew Foss and Mary (Jessop) McCauley. He graduated from White Oak High School in 1934. He married Marjorie Conkel on Dec. 3, 1938, at Loring Methodist Church parsonage. She preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 1984. He was a farmer and farmed near Cambridge until retiring in 1980. He was a member of Marquisville United Methodist Church. He loved to hunt, fish and work with wood.

He is survived by his companion, Mildred Porter, of Cambridge; one son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Diane McCauley, of Kent, Ohio; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bernice and Ken Herman, of White Oak, and Roberta and Jerry Kohler, of Prescott, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Laura (Kevan) Zechin, Brian (Angela) Herman, Craig (Kellie) McCauley, and Rod (Pam) McCauley; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris Kaltenheuser, of Phoenix, and Iris Longnecker, of Ankeny.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie; one brother, Norman; and a sister, Betty Ross.

Memorials may be made to Homeward Hospice or Marquisville United Methodist Church.

Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is in charge of arrangements.
