Dr. R. Doran Espe, O.D., 61, of Independence, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at his home of metastatic bladder cancer. A celebration of Doran's life will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Reiff Funeral Home and Crematory in Independence and a service of commemoration will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at First United Methodist Church in Independence.

He is survived by his wife, Stephany Harvey, of Independence; one son, Robert Harvey Espe, of Cedar Falls; one sister, Ann (Don) Skellenger, of Lakeland, Fla.; two nieces; four nephews; and three dogs.

Memorials may be directed to the Dr. R. Doran Espe Memorial Fund in care of BankIowa, 230 First St. East, Independence, IA, 50644.
